Animal Grantmakers Conference Coming to Portland in October

Animal Grantmakers, a small affinity group for grantmakers who fund animal protection work, will be convening at the Hilton in downtown Portland October 15-18, 2017. The conference committee has been hard at work lining up speakers and sessions that they hope will be interesting and useful, and are excited to offer a preview of what’s to come. 
  • Dinner keynote by Lewis Bollard, Open Philanthropy Project, and Welcome Remarks by Berkely Breathed, Bloom County cartoonist and animal supporter
  • Speakers from the 25th annual Animal Law Conference, which immediately precedes the Animal Grantmakers conference at the same hotel
  • Endangered Species Act panel featuring Jamie Clark, Defenders of Wildlife
  • Advocacy Strategies for Grantmakers presented by the Alliance for Justice
  • Hot-Topic Discussion led by Dr. Breeze Harper on Building Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion into Animal Philanthropy
  • A special Farm Animal Welfare Day focusing on impact, innovation, and inspiration in addressing farm animal issues and featuring a Tofurky factory tour and tasting, co-hosted by Sustainable Agriculture & Food Systems Funders
  • Other sessions on Companion Animals, Community Cats, and Animals in Entertainment
  • Field trips to experience Oregon’s natural beauty by touring the Bonneville Dam and hiking along the Columbia River Gorge, and to learn about local animal welfare work by visiting the Oregon Humane Society
