Fundamentals Series: The Fundamentals in Grantmaking Series (Grantmakers 101, 102 and 103) provides a comprehensive overview of grantmaking for philanthropic staff. By the end of the three-workshop series, you will learn about grantmaking trends in the United States, how to understand nonprofit financials as you review requests for funding and the legalities of being a grantmaker.
Grantmakers 101: The first of a three-part series, Grantmakers 101 is the first and longest in a series of grantmaker trainings focused on the skills needed to run a foundation and do effective grantmaking. The primary focus of this one-day training is understanding how to apply your foundation’s values to the context in which the work of grantmaking happens, how to exercise due diligence as a grantmaker, understanding the ecosystem of organized philanthropy, basic skills needed to run a foundation and a thought-provoking discussion about the great debates in philanthropy.
Grantmakers 102: This second workshop will give you a comprehensive understanding about the nonprofit financial structures, processes and financial statements. including how to understand financial statements, what a budget reveals about an organization and the Form 990. This workshop will be held Friday, July 26 from 8:30 am—2:30 pm.
Grantmakers 103: This is the final workshop in the Fundamental Series and focuses on the legal issues that face every nonprofit, especially those relating to foundations and grant programs. Participants will learn about legal structures, rules that govern foundations, and protecting your foundation as you maneuver through legal concepts of being a funder. Reserve Friday, September 13 from 8:30 am—2:30 pm for this intensive learning experience.
