Murdock Partners in Science program featured in Portland State Magazine
Portland State Magazine recently ran a story about two local high school teachers, Beaverton High School’s Jeffrey Buckingham and David Douglas High School’s Heather Blair, who are participating in M. J. Murdock Charitable Trust’s Partners in Science program. The teachers are given grants to do graduate-level research, and have been paired with PSU professors Catherine de Rivera and Anne Thompson to study urban wildlife and ocean phytoplankton, respectively.
The Partners in Science program has been around for 28 years, and there are about 25 grant recipients each year. The goal of the program is to give K-12 educators hands-on learning opportunities that they can bring back to the classroom for what STEM funders call “contextual learning.”
