Collecting Data for Effective Program Planning

Tuesday, March 21, 2023
12:00-1:00pm
DESCRIPTION:

Surveys are a powerful method to gather data. But, how do you know what to ask? How can you avoid common survey design mistakes?

Join Chanda Evans, Regional Arts and Culture Council (RACC) Arts Education Manager and Chari Smith, President of Evaluation into Action as they share their survey process from design to report. The purpose of this survey was to understand what arts educators need in several areas so that program planning can be based on their feedback. Chanda and Chari will walk through how they determined what to ask, how data were successfully gathered, compiled into a user-friendly report, and how data were used to inform program plans.

You can view the summary report here.

In this workshop, you will learn survey design basics. You will understand how to take what you learned and apply that knowledge to your planning needs.

About Chanda. Chanda joined RACC in August of 2020 after spending nearly a decade away from her native Pacific Northwest (this time around) in Boulder, Los Angeles, and New York City. Having a passion for advocacy, she has spent most of her career working in the non-profit and education sphere. She believes in promoting equity, access, and inclusion in public schools for all children. She believes the arts are a crucial gateway to exploring ones dreams, innovative spirit, and the arts help foster empathy and compassion. Chanda believes community engagement enables us to build bridges to create lasting connections which champion diversity and personal growth. She believes we can and should always grow, lean forward, and be willing to take steps that might seem uncomfortable to get to where we should be.

About Chari. Chari Smith believes evaluation should be accessible, practical and usable. She founded Evaluation into Action to help nonprofit professionals create realistic and meaningful program evaluation processes. She is also an adjunct faculty member for the University of Portland’s Pamplin School of Business Nonprofit MBA program. Chari is passionate about her work and brings her enthusiasm, insight, and expertise to each project.  Her book, Nonprofit Program Evaluation Made Simple: Get Your Data. Show Your Impact. Improve Your Programs., provides step by step instruction on how to do program evaluation.  To learn more about surveys, join Chari on Tuesday, April 18, 9 – 11am for a virtual workshop Survey Design Made Simple.
