Legal Fundamentals for Grantmakers

Friday, June 03, 2022
10 - 11:30 am
DESCRIPTION:

The work you do as a grant administrator could have legal implications. Come learn about the legal structures of nonprofits/foundations, rules that govern foundations and their funding decisions, and things you need to know to keep your philanthropic work within legal boundaries with the Internal Revenue Service and other oversight agencies. This workshop offers a discussion on protections and practices you can take in order to make sure being a grantor doesn’t jeopardize your organization’s tax-exempt status. Although there will be technical discussion, you will have opportunities to ask your questions in this interactive session. We will also explore the basics of fiscal sponsorship and leveraging your resources to help educate governmental entities.
