FAQ
GOSW Sunsetting – Frequently Asked Questions
Why is GOSW sunsetting?
For over 25 years, GOSW has been a trusted space for philanthropy to learn, connect, and grow. As the landscape shifts, we recognize the ways we gather and collaborate must evolve too. Instead of holding onto a structure that may no longer serve this moment, we’re making space for new ways to strengthen philanthropy in our region.
When will GOSW officially close?
GOSW will officially begin the sunsetting process on March 31, 2025. While we don’t have a final closure date yet, we promise regular updates as our timeline takes shape. Your continued partnership is important to us, and we are here to support you each step of the way.
Will my organization need to pay membership dues moving forward?
No. GOSW did not accept membership dues for 2025. If you have sent membership dues to GOSW for 2025 via check or ACH, the payment will be returned to your organization. Please contact board@gosw.org if you have any questions.
We deeply appreciate the support provided by our members, which has sustained our collective work.
What will happen to current member benefits and services?
All current member services, programs, and benefits will remain fully active through March 31, 2025. If any changes occur sooner, we’ll promptly inform you. Our goal is to ensure your continued engagement and support during this transition.
How will this affect ongoing partnerships or projects?
GOSW remains committed to honoring all existing commitments and will actively support current projects until completion or successful transition. Our President and CEO, Dashiell Elliott, will individually reach out to partners to clearly communicate next steps and ensure seamless continuity.
Will GOSW’s resources still be accessible after the organization closes?
Key resources, tools, and reports will remain accessible digitally via the GOSW website through March 31, 2025. We encourage you to download or archive important documents before that date. Afterward, select resources may be archived with trusted partner organizations.
What happens to my data after GOSW closes?
Your privacy and confidentiality are of utmost importance to us. Member data will be responsibly managed, securely archived, or deleted according to data-protection best practices. No personal or organizational data will be transferred, shared, or sold.
Will there be a new organization to replace GOSW?
There are no immediate plans for a direct successor organization. However, this transition creates space for philanthropy to reimagine and develop new, sustainable, equity-centered networks in our region.
What support is available for current members during this transition?
We understand this transition may affect members differently. The board and CEO are actively compiling resources, facilitating connections, and providing guidance tailored to your needs. More details and resources will be shared soon to support you fully.
How can I stay connected to regional philanthropic communities after GOSW sunsets?
We strongly encourage you to follow these trusted regional and national networks and organizations:
- ABFE
- Nonprofit Association of Oregon (NAO)
- Philanthropy Northwest
- United Philanthropy Forum
- Social Justice Fund Northwest
- PEAK Grantmaking
- National Center for Family Philanthropy
**These organizations align closely with our shared values and offer meaningful pathways to continued engagement.
Can I transfer my GOSW membership to another philanthropic network?
No. Memberships are not directly transferable. We encourage and warmly recommend engagement with the networks listed above, which share similar missions and values, offering valuable communities for connection and growth. GOSW can facilitate introductions or connections to those membership networks.
Will there be a final event or convening before GOSW closes?
We are actively exploring the possibility of a final event to honor GOSW’s legacy, recognize our community, and encourage continued collaboration. More details will be shared in the coming months.
What will happen to GOSW’s staff?
GOSW had one full-time employee—the President and CEO, Dashiell Elliott. There are no additional staff members impacted by this decision. Dashiell is committed to leading a thoughtful and supportive transition process for all members and partners.
How will the broader community be informed of GOSW’s closure?
GOSW released a press release and member e-newsletter communication on March 18, 2025. We are committed to clear and proactive communication through direct outreach, regular email announcements, and website postings. Our goal is full transparency with members, partners, and our broader community.
What’s next for Dashiell Elliott?
Dashiell will remain actively involved in philanthropy, bringing her deep expertise into exciting new opportunities. She is also pursuing graduate studies, further enhancing her contributions to the philanthropic sector and social impact work.
